By Radouane – Talamrout Summit, Imlil, Morocco
At 4,167 meters, Mount Toubkal is Morocco’s and North Africa’s highest peak, offering trekkers an unforgettable blend of stunning High Atlas landscapes, rich Amazigh culture, and rewarding physical challenge.
Located just 90 km from Marrakech, the Toubkal trek can be done in as little as two days or extended into a longer adventure through traditional Berber villages, deep valleys, and hidden mountain trails.
Whether you want a quick summit or a cultural trekking journey, this guide covers everything you need to plan your climb — from hiring a guide to finding the best accommodation in Imlil.
Why Climb Mount Toubkal?
Epic Views – From the summit, gaze over the rugged Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, and the valleys below.
Cultural Encounters – Meet the Amazigh people, stay in guesthouses, and taste authentic local food.
Year-Round Challenge – Summer offers mild conditions; winter provides a snow-covered alpine experience.
Flexible Duration – Complete in 2 days or extend to explore Amazigh villages and daily mountain life.
The Classic 2-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Imlil (1,740m) → Refuge du Toubkal (3,207m) Start from Imlil with your mandatory local guide. Trek past walnut groves, rivers, and the sacred shrine of Sidi Chamharouch. You can buy bottled water along the trail from small village shops and at the refuge. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at the refuge.
Day 2: Refuge → Summit → Imlil Begin before sunrise to reach the summit in time for unforgettable morning views. After taking in the scenery, descend to the refuge for breakfast, then return to Imlil.
Extend Your Trek
If you have more time, stretch your trek to 3–4 days:
