Overview Discover one of the most beautiful and less-traveled areas of the High Atlas Mountains: the Tazaghart Plateau (3,985m) and surrounding 4000m summits. This 3-day trek combines adventure, breathtaking landscapes, and a unique stay at the remote Tazaghart Refuge (3,000m). Known among mountaineers for climbing, ice routes, and alpine skiing, Tazaghart remains a hidden gem for trekkers seeking an authentic challenge. Duration: 3 days / 2 nights Start/End Point: Marrakech → Imlil Highest Altitude: Afella North & South (4,043m) Difficulty: Challenging (for experienced trekkers with good fitness) Accommodation: Mountain refuge (shared dorms) Best Season: May – October (summer trekking), December – March (climbing & ski touring) Day-by-Day Itinerary Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Tazaghart Refuge (3,000m) Drive: 1h30 from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740m) Meet your local guide, muleteer, and cook. Start trekking via Tizi Mzik Pass (2,480m) with panoramic views. Descend to Azib Tamsoult (2,250m), traditional shepherd huts. Lunch stop by Ighouliden Waterfalls, then continue the steep ascent to Tazaghart Refuge (3,000m). Evening: Watch a spectacular sunset over Marrakech lights, enjoy stargazing in a peaceful, isolated valley. Trek time: 5–6 hours Overnight: Tazaghart Refuge (3,000m) Day 2: Tazaghart Plateau (3,985m) & Afella Summits (4,043m) Breakfast at the refuge. Begin the ascent via Tizi Melloul Pass (3,900m). Climb the wide, flat Tazaghart Plateau (3,985m) — often compared to several football fields on the roof of the Atlas. Continue to Afella North & South peaks (4,043m), offering breathtaking 360° views of Toubkal Massif. Descend back to the refuge for a well-earned dinner and relaxing evening by the river and waterfalls. Trek time: 8–10 hours (ascent & descent) Overnight: Tazaghart Refuge (3,000m) Day 3: Tazaghart Refuge – Imlil – Marrakech Option 1 (Standard Route): Descend via Ighouliden Waterfalls and Azib Tamsoult. Cross back over Tizi Mzik Pass and return to Imlil. Option 2 (Challenging Route): Traverse via Tizi n’Tsikert Pass (2,800m) with the possibility of summiting an additional peak. Long descent through Aremd village to Imlil. Drive back to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
